Dr. Hillary Norton
Dr. Hillary Norton is Santa Fe’s only board-certified rheumatologist.
Dr. Norton received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of New Mexico. She also completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in rheumatology at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Norton actively contributes to the advancement of patient care by participating in clinical trials and serving as an advisor and consultant to patient advocacy organizations and companies that seek to bring new medications and treatment options to patients. Her research interests include spondyloarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, and emerging tests for precision-based medicine.
Dr. Norton is a member of the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network (SPARTAN) and has authored papers in numerous peer-reviewed journals. As a rheumatic patient herself, Dr. Norton has a unique understanding of the needs of her patients. She has a passion for raising awareness for spondyloarthritis and is widely recognized for her extensive media work focused on raising awareness about rheumatic diseases and advocating for patient outcomes that improve the overall quality of life and wellness.
Dr. Norton has lectured internationally on various aspects of rheumatic disease and treats patients from across the country who seek her unique perspective and patient-centered expertise.

Joseph Poole
Nurse Practitioner

Joseph received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and has been a nurse for 12 years.
He then achieved a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and has been an Advanced Practice Nurse, since 2016.
“My first experience with Rheumatology began when I received a young patient who had experienced low back pain for 5 years prior to diagnosis. We discovered together, that he was HLA B27 positive and after receiving a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, the patient was given a new outlook on life with a new biologic medication.”
Joseph’s 6 years in primary care also allow him to differentiate between various physiologic conditions, and he’s not afraid to treat obesity in the pursuit of a rheumatologic care plan Joseph is the proud Dad of an 11 year old son, and has called Santa Fe home for almost 4 years.

Gayle Barber
Practice Manager
Gayle Barber is an accomplished healthcare professional with over 12 years’ experience developing and leading high-performance teams.
Gayle’s approach to creating motivated and engaged employees stems from her experience as a Regional Practice Manager for the State of Washington, working with large healthcare agencies such as Providence, and the Everett Clinic. Gayle was responsible for the oversight and operations of 12 Redi Clinics throughout northern Washington. Gayle’s approach to leadership is based on clear communication, shared vision that drives organizational goals, setting reasonable and consistent expectations, practicing continuous learning, cultivating a culture of trust and respect among peers.
“Being able to share ideas in a fast-paced, detail-oriented industry such as healthcare requires that all members of a team feel that they can take calculated risks. And when they do, they innovate, they become involved, they let their defenses down, and the team thrives. As a leader that’s my priority, to help them bring their whole selves to their work.”
When not working, Gayle enjoys reading, baking, playing with her dogs, spending time, and travelling with her husband.
